Enabling Multi-Device

Accessing Authy 2FA from a second device takes just a few moments to set up. Just follow this step-by-step guide.

  1. Open the Authy app on your primary device. Tap on "Settings" (the gear icon at top right).
  2. Tap "Devices."
  3. Turn on "Allow Multi-device."
  4. Now, on your second device, install Authy.
  5. Once installed, open the Authy app. When prompted, enter the phone number of your primary device.
  6. A popup will appear reading "Get Account Verification Via." Tap "Use
    Existing Device."
  7. Go back to your primary device now. A notification will ask you to verify the addition of the new device. Tap "Accept."
  8. When prompted to approve this decision, type "OK" in the entry field.
  9. Return to "Settings" on your primary device and tap "Devices" again.
  10. You will now see two "trusted" devices connected to any current (and future) two-factor services you enable with Authy.
  11. If your accounts have a little lock on them you will need to enter in your Authy backup code. To do this, tap on one of the accounts and you will be prompted to enter in your Authy Backup password. You should have that backup password located in your 1Password, it may be called "Authy Backup". If you do not have that password, you will need to change it.
    1. Open Authy on your old phone
    2. Tap on "Settings" (the gear icon a top right)
    3. Tap accounts at the bottom of the screen
    4. Tap "Change Password" and update your password. After you update your password be sure to add that into your 1Password. 
    5. Tap on one of the accounts and you will be prompted to enter in your Authy Backup password

 

If you no longer have access to your old phone but have Authy configured on your MacBook air you can follow the instructions above. 

 

If you don't have access to your old phone or don't have Authy setup on your MacBook air follow the instructions below. 

  1. Open your Authy App
  2. Make sure you use the same phone number you used to setup Authy on your old phone
  3. Enter the same email address you used to setup Authy on your old phone
  4. Once you've completed the setup process your Accounts should now appear with a little lock icon on them
  5. Tap on one of the accounts and you will be prompted to enter in your Authy Backup password
